Once upon a time a 19 year old Nikki had experienced her first proper break up. She had been with this guy for 3 years and without him she felt a bit lost in the world. So she did what anyone would do. She went on holiday to Italy.
I spent 9 days in the Südtirol. Travelling around Lake Garda, going up mountains and just falling in love with the country.Labels
I had to get up at 5:30am one day just to go to one place I'd forever been curious about. Venice. I fell in love with it instantly. At the time I had been watching America's Next Top Model and the prize was a spread in Vogue Italia. I heard them banging on about it for a whole 13 episodes. As I was strolling around Venice you can see why they praise Italy for it's architecture, art and of course the fashion.
I tried in vain to get a copy of Vogue Italia in Venice and do you think I could find one? NOPE.
On my last day, I stopped at a train station and there on the shelf was my holy grail. I snatched it up and spent the rest of the day looking at it. I still have that magazine and I still look at it when I need inspiration.
What Makes Vogue Italia so special?
The contents. I feel that each Vogue is very much designed to the country it is being sold in. Vogue UK can be very reserved whereas Vogue Italia embraces Haute Couture a lot more. There is occasionally some very editorial styled photos in the Vogue UK but Vogue Italia will frequently turn it up to 11.
It's not to everyone's taste but you can't deny it's more than just a magazine. It's an incredible form of art and expression. This is my grail:
Beyond elegance. It was a style choice, but especially one of love (her husband liked her that way) that inspired Ethel Granger (1905-1982) to tighten herself into corsets that modified her waist up to the point of reaching a record measure of thirty-three centimeters, a limit that has not been surpassed to this day.
A revolutionary woman, who, also to indulge her husband’s tastes, did not hesitate to have dozens of piercings done back in the Fifties. She is the inspiration behind this cover and the fashion shoot interpreted by an intense Stella Tennant. Who, to emphasize Ethel’s decisive and distinctive allure, wears an exclusive perfume, beyond any olfactory stereotype, like Infusion d’Iris by Prada.
In the bouquet, the precious elegance of the Florentine iris pallida combined with the freshness of the Sicilian mandarin and with a mix of galbanum, mastic, incense, vetiver and cedar wood. Gabardine nattée single-breasted coat with contrasting collar,
